Frequently Asked Questions

AT THE DESIGN PHASE
Please obtain our detailed quotation and estimated schedule for the job to help make sure a clear specification exists from the beginning.

SUITABILITY OF MATERIALS
We always recommend testing materials first to make sure they work together, e.g., foil may not release cleanly on some materials; and certain materials may crack when blind embossed.

COLOUR MATCHING
Whilst every effort is made to match Pantone colours, it should be remembered that the interaction between different materials and different processes could sometimes affect the finished shade.

PROOFS
It is well worth paying for a wet/machine proof of any job not absolutely straightforward; it could also help give you or your customer an opportunity of seeing the design, print process and paper working together. This is always recommended for the more intricate and detailed projects.

LASER COPIERS AND OTHER POTENTIAL HAZARDS
The operating temperatures of laser copiers and other office equipment work at high temperatures and varying speeds. On rare occasions the equipment’s digestive system rebels against some foils and embossed letterhead papers. We therefore recommend that you machine proof before you run the complete job. If in any doubt please speak to the Solways team.
